My experience in the kitchen started when I was a teenager. After school I would cook for my little sister when my mom could not be there. Little did I know that 24 years later I would be sitting at my computer helping other people in the kitchen. Through this was not my original youthful dream, it has certainly become my adult passion.
I have probably prepared hundreds of thousands of meals over the course of a few decades, and the truth is: cooking for my family has been more trying than cooking for senators and nervous brides. More than once I have stood in the grocery store dreading the stress of planning family dinners.
Now that my children are teenagers I can look back at the evolution of their tastes and laugh at some of the things I have had to do just to get them to eat. I have even resorted to lying and trickery-two things that sometimes works on young children but rarely on the older ones. It gets much harder to feed them when they know they are smarter than you are, I mean aren't you're children convinced you are stupid? I know mine think that of me.
As a professional caterer I have learned many lessons and tricks that make large events go smoothly and look effortless. However, as a mother my useful skills far outweigh that of a caterer when dealing with those that I love most. This is the main reason that I have started this blog. There are many people who wander around the grocery store with that same look of dread that I have had. Maybe you have done this yourself? They are simply trying to plan a meal that tastes good, looks good and satisfies all the different and diverse tastes of your family. As we all know, this is not always an easy task.
So, from today forward I am going to share my knowledge, success, failures, tips, tricks and strategies for planning meals for a family that doesn't always like the same thing. I want to help alleviate the frustration that so many of us, including myself sometimes feel. I hope you find yourself laughing, learning and most importantly cooking. Continue to join me for stories, tips, recipes and light-hearted fun in my upcoming segments.
One last thing, I only share these with special members of my family, so on behalf of me welcome to my family. Now as an active member of my cooking family here is your first tip!
TIP #1: That big thing in your kitchen is a stove. It won't bite you, I promise!
